The book was Kingdom Man by Tony Evans.  I didn’t see a change in myself, particularly.  I loved reading the book, and I just felt like it put me in a good mood.  I started hearing Beth tell people around me that she saw a change in me once I proceeded past the second chapter.  I knew what I needed to do: Be a Kingdom Man who handles my realm the way God intended me to.

Functional Agnosticism – A True Story – Part III

I was not reading the Quran because I believed in it, though I had a feeling I needed to know  it.  Eventually I had enough, and started reading Antiquities of the Jews by Flavius Josephus.  I wanted to know if someone other than the Catholic Church found any of this to be an accurate reflection of reality.  Beth urged me to read the bible as much as I was reading this massive collection of volumes.  I love her so much for this, today.  Although then, I moved on to Herodotus.

Beth and I started dating and eventually began leading worship at a start-up Baptist church that met in a high-school cafeteria.  I put off going to college so I could get a full time job and upon hearing the news, my pastor (who doubled as my electric guitar player) estimated my weekly tithe…aloud…during the service countdown.

I would have never thought He would have cared to convert a Christian raised in His own house.

Functional – adjective. Of or relating to the way something work or operates.

Agnostic – noun. A person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in a God.

Essentially, you might as well be agnostic because believing in a God hasn’t changed your life inside, or out.
